North London newcomer
jo from school has shared her debut single
, 'Chicken'.Released via Chess Club Records and produced by Hugo M. Hardy (Nieve Ella, Matilda Mann, Esme Emerson), the track arrives alongside a video co-directed by Jo and creative collaborator
Rosa Levenson, set on a surreal tennis court.
Speaking about the single, Jo explains: "'Chicken' represents fear, shame and embarrassment. It’s about leaving a person and a time behind. ‘Chickening’ is about cowardice, but is also a reference to the beautiful & cheap ‘chicken’ wine my friends and I love dearly."
She continues: "Usually I'm more meticulous on my choices and phrasings but this time the process was to let me say whatever I needed to get out."
A recent signing to Chess Club Records, the 22-year-old artist previously appeared at Rotterdam’s
Left of The Dial festival and played dates supporting Daffo and TTSSFU last year.
She’ll also play London’s The
100 Club this summer.
