Independent songwriter
SOFY has announced her first full-length record,
'How To Perform Magic', arriving 25th September, with new single
'DooYaa' available now.
'DooYaa' takes a sardonic swipe at industry nepotism, setting the tone for a record that swings between trip hop, garage rock, britpop and breakbeats.
Reflecting on the writing process, she says: "I've always felt like songwriting is its own kind of magic… but at that time, it genuinely felt like the only thing that could fix everything was waving a magic wand."Of the new single, she adds: "I love DooYaa, it's one of my favourite songs I've ever written. Its strength is definitely in its sarcasm." Written while juggling two jobs to fund her music, the track channels her annoyance at watching peers fast-tracked through industry connections. She continues: "I felt really frustrated seeing others handed opportunities through nepotism, industry connections, or major labels. So this song is a huge two fingers up to the hype machine."
'How To Perform Magic' features '40 Minute Masterpiece', 'DooYaa', '
Wishbone', 'How To Perform Magic', 'Cashmere', 'Headlock', 'Saturation', 'Jealousy's A Fever', 'Nintendogs', 'Superfriend' and '5050', with deluxe edition tracks 'AllBabestation', 'Mr Motivator' and 'Sandtimer' included on physical and download formats from day one.
