Dead Pony are entering a louder, heavier and more unapologetic new chapter. Following the release of their debut album ‘Ignore This’ and a whirlwind run of festivals and tours, the Glasgow four-piece return with new EP ‘Eat My Dust!’, a six-track blast of alt-rock chaos that pushes their sound further into metallic, early-2000s-inspired territory.
To celebrate the release, Dead Pony have taken us through the record track-by-track, unpacking the emotions, influences and experiences behind each song - from the outsider anthem of ‘Freak Like Me’ to the raw introspection of ‘Lost Inside Of Me’.
What If?
'What If?' came from a place of anxiety and self-doubt. After a rough year, there were definitely moments where we questioned ourselves, our confidence, and what we were doing. The song captures that constant spiral of overthinking and never feeling good enough, but it also feels like a release - like finally pushing back against those thoughts instead of letting them control you. It's one of the rawest songs we've written.
Eat My Dust
This track is basically us letting go of everything negative we've carried around. It's angry, fast, chaotic, and full of energy, but underneath that, it's really about growth — moving forward, becoming stronger, and refusing to let toxic people or past experiences hold you back. We had so much fun leaning into heavier influences on this one, too. It felt good to just go all in.
Freak Like Me
'Freak Like Me' is really close to our hearts. It's about finding comfort in not fitting in and celebrating the parts of yourself that other people might see as "too much." We were really inspired by nights at The Priory in Glasgow when we were younger - sweaty gigs, loud music, complete chaos - but also this amazing feeling that nobody had to pretend to be anyone else. That song is for the outsiders, the weirdos, and anyone still figuring themselves out.
Fury
'Fury' is about confidence and resilience, especially when the world constantly tries to knock that out of you. We wanted it to feel empowering — loud, aggressive, and fearless — but also genuinely uplifting. It's for anyone who needs to be reminded of their worth or needs a push to stop shrinking themselves for other people.
Boom!
'Boom!' taps into that feeling of uncertainty where everything feels unstable and you just want to escape it all. The post-apocalyptic imagery in the song came from imagining what it would feel like to completely destroy everything familiar and start over. There's a lot of chaos in it, but also this weird sense of freedom and possibility.
Lost Inside of Me
This is probably one of the most personal songs on the EP. It's about letting go of old versions of yourself and accepting that growth can be painful sometimes. There's a lot of emotion, regret, and vulnerability in it, but also hope. It's about learning to trust yourself, even when you don't fully know where you're heading next.
